The satellites were made by Spire Global, a leading global provider of space-based data, analytics and space services, at their nanosatellite manufacturing and test facility in Skypark in the Finnieston area of the city.
The launch, which took place at Cape Canaveral Space Station in Florida, is the third successful launch this year by the company, and helps to further cement Glasgow’s status as Europe’s number one satellite manufacturing hub.
As we reported back in 2020, Glasgow now makes more satellites than any other city outside the United States since the first Glasgow-built satellite was launched back in 2014.
Confirming news of the launch yesterday, UK Space Agency tweeted: “This evening, five satellites from Spire Global, which were built in Glasgow, are set for launch into orbit with Space X.”
